To the ones that hold my heart, to the ones I love the Most

everyone has their main blorbo / 'main' romantic fictional other, and henry cooldown from the no more heroes series, is my number one <3to keep it short: this irish assassin (who's currently undergoing his villain arc) means everything to me fullstop. he lives in my head rent free, he has me wrapped around his finger and i can't stop thinking about all the things he said (that's running through my head) and i wouldn't have it any other way. i love him, and he loves me, that's just all you need to know! for comfort reasons, i may 'jokingly' refer to him as my 'husband/malewife/babygirl' etc.obvs the no more heroes series is more so interested in his loser brother (platonic, affectionate), travis touchdown, there isn't really much... development of Henry as a character. So, my characterisation of Henry is mostly based/modeled on canon interactions + personality, and any vague breadcrumbs that have been dropped/implied throughout the series. I may also incorporate other people's headcanons, but only if they align with my own or if i vibe with it.that said, feel free to ask me about said characterisation and backstory headcanons! there's literally a whole character arc in my head that has henry getting revenge on the family that adopted him and turned him into an assassin (NMH said it's okay to kill your abusers <3)quick note! i refer to henry with various pronouns bc i headcanon them as agender, and so the pronouns i use are: they/he/it/ze/xe/sie/necro. I additionally headcanon as gray-asexual or at the very least he's on the acearo spectrum (i mean. he's literally got the ace/aro flag colour palette in his designs lol).that said... henry isn't the only swordsman with brown hair and a name beginning with the letter 'h' that has captured my heart....

most recently, another 'blorbo' has captured my heart. Hayate (formerly known as 'ein') from the Dead or Alive fighting game series. yes. the same one with the infamous jiggle physics. i know i know!in brief: hayate is a shinobi from the Mugen tenshin clan, who are isolationist, and Hayate is in line to be the next leader. unfortunately her uncle had a temper tantrum that left Hayate in a coma, got kidnapped (while comatose!) and then experimented on without consent. it's really fucked up when you think about it. anyways she has an amnesia arc (that's where 'ein' comes in), but eventually has xeir memory jogged and returns home with a mostly hero's welcome. tl;dr this ninja just as equally lives in my head rent free next to mr. sir henry. maybe even more haha.gameplay wise, hayate is very fun to play as! but i'm not exactly good at playing as her tbh. but i love her moveset, emphasis on speed and juggles! much like henry, hayate isn't the protagonist (that's her sister, kasumi's job!), but she does get the spotlight in the later games, so thankfully there is a little more meat to Hayate's character!also the best part about hayate is that she's an anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist queen and she is currently waging war against M.I.S.T. an evil science corporation run by victor donovan, who has constantly ruined the peaceful existence of her clan. trust me, doa4 has PEAK storytelling out all of the doa games.quick note! i headcanon hayate to be genderfluid transfeminine, because a ninja clan that's lived with an isolationist policy for so long would NOT adhere to traditional gender roles or gender expression. I refer to her as my joyfriend, and the pronouns i use for them are: she/xe/he/they. additionally, I headcanon them as demi-bisexual, and is in a queerplatonic relationship with ryu hayabusa (spoiler alert: i also self ship with him, so it's kind of an oddball polycule with two ninjas). but yeah um. i love hayate so so so much. all thanks to doa2 on ps2.and because of doa2, it introduced me to ninja gaiden and uh... i did not anticipate walking into this shared franchise universe thing coming out with me holding two hands of two VERY dangerous shinobi <3

when i played doa2, and its other installments, my first impression of ryu hayabusa was 'oh i think he's neat!' and never really thought much of it. this bit me in the ass Very quickly. before i know it after finishing vanilla ng2, and starting ng3: re, the dragon ninja himself, sunk his falcon talons so deep into me that I haven't been able to stop thinking about him since then.i actually thought i just had extremely strong platonic, or alterous feelings for him because playing as ryu hayabusa is so damn empowering. turns out i had been harboring romantic feelings for him, its just that it took a while to fully accept them. but i haven't looked back since then.much like hayate, ryu comes from a ninja clan that has survived colonization for generations and is arguably one of the best shinobi of his generation. despite the cold exterior, there is a hidden sadness to his character in that he always shouldering the burden of taking on world ending threats, usually ancient gods and demons far more powerful beyond our comprehension. he does so because it's his duty to protect a world that can't protect itself from these powerful monsters. oh yeah, this series in the same universe as the dead or alive games, so please take a moment to realise that in the next-door over, as Ryu is dismembering demons, people are partaking in a bloodsport. insane.gameplay wise i am... not perfect playing as Ryu, hell i can barely pull off a natural izuna drop in the doa games (its a bit easier in the ninja gaiden games). but i certainly try my best, its just that there's so many moves that it's hard to execute playing as him at his fullest potential (both in the fighting and action games).canonically hayate and ryu are childhood friends and sometimes friendly rivals, but do lean on each other in times of need, which is why i headcanon as them being in a queerplatonic relationship. hell there's an instance in the third ninja gaiden game where hayate has his sword delivered for ryu to use and while its hayate's sister, ayane delivering the sword, the sentiment behind the action is not lost on ryu in that moment.ryu doesn't really care for labels, because again i suspect being in an isolationist ninja clan, your perceptions of sexuality do not fit in neat little boxes. in short, i poly selfship with him and hayate. idk man i just want to hold both of these brunet shinobi's hands. ;3
